Built for everything from low RPM cruising and scale flying to aggressive 3D, the OMPHobby M5 is designed to be a versatile and adaptable airframe. Sharing over 90% of its parts with the larger M6, the M5 offers a strong, efficient, and easy-to-service platform for pilots looking for serious performance in a 550–580mm class helicopter.

Introduction

The M5 is designed for up to 580mm main rotor blades and works with 6S to 8S power systems. It combines the best attributes of the OMPHobby M4 and M7 into one clean and attractive package.

The airframe features an elegant open-frame layout, a sturdy main plate, and a compact servo rack design for easy maintenance and clean wiring. The layered carbon frame is extremely stiff, with beautifully chamfered lower carbon side panels for a premium finish.

The M5 is designed around modern 15mm mini servos, while the M6 is designed for 20mm standard servos. If desired, the M5 can be crossgraded to 20mm servos using compatible M6 parts.

Integrated wiring guides throughout the frame make routing your electronics clean and simple.

M7-Inspired Rotor & Tail Design

The main rotor system is directly derived from the OMPHobby M7 rotor design. Long control throws, integrated and retained rotor blade washers, durable 5mm ball joints, and two damping options are all part of the large-diameter rotor head mounted on a 12mm main shaft.

Together, these features provide excellent precision, stability, and control authority, helping the M5 feel rock solid while remaining highly agile in the air.

For tail control, the M5 and M6 inherit the same style of one-piece tail rotor housing, slop-free bell crank mechanism, and robust tail rotor design used on the M7. The system is downsized for the lightweight 28mm carbon fiber tail boom while retaining a 6mm tail shaft and 5mm tail spindle shaft.

Power System & Drivetrain

With pinion options ranging from 11T to 15T and durable 15mm tall FEA-optimized main gears, the M5 gives pilots a wide range of gearing choices to fine-tune their setup.

The motor mount sits on rails directly on the main plate, improving rigidity and helping maintain parallel shaft alignment for a clean and consistent gear mesh.

The airframe accepts a wide range of battery configurations inside a spacious 58 x 70 x 300mm battery bay. Since the M5 and M6 share the same basic frame structure, M5 battery trays fit the M6 without modification, and M6 battery trays also fit the M5.
